Foods To Avoid
These are some of the foods that I personally try to avoid because they tend to trigger my symptoms. Everyone’s experience with Crohn’s is different, so these may not apply to everyone, but they’ve been some of the big ones for me.
All Seeds
Many people with Crohn’s avoid seeds because they can be harder to digest and may irritate the intestines during flares. For me, seeds often cause discomfort, so I choose to leave them out.
Popcorn
Popcorn is a common trigger for people with Crohn’s because the kernels and hulls are hard to digest and can irritate the intestines.
Fruits with Skin
Fruits like apples and grapes can be tough for me to digest because their skins are harder on the gut and sometimes trigger symptoms. I usually peel them or choose softer fruit options instead.
Beans
Beans can be difficult to digest because of their high fiber content and natural sugars, which often cause gas and bloating.
Artificial Sweeteners
Artificial sweeteners, like those found in diet sodas, sugar-free gum, or some packaged snacks, can sometimes worsen digestive symptoms.
Raw Veggies
Raw veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts can be tough to digest and may cause gas or bloating for people with Crohn’s. Cooking them often makes them easier on the gut.
